Friend, after we posted last week’s show, I got on a plane and headed to Vegas. The crew and I were not entirely sure what we’d capture when we met up with Andy and his Eastern Michigan golf team.

We ended up seeing his process in action.

Much of the process you’ve heard on our shows and podcasts. Stay aware, play smart, and be prepared.

But, this week, Andy presented a keen level of detail. His VCU team won this Lake Las Vegas Invitational last season. He knows every inch of the Reflection Bay Golf Club. And he was focused on making sure his Eastern Michigan team had access to all that knowledge and strategy.

What stood out to me was the way the information was presented to the team. Rarely did he dictate what club needed to be hit. After all, when the wind changes, what good is that requirement? It was always about areas to hit drives/layups, so that the greens can be approached from the right angle and distance.

The core of every strategy was making the percentage play. Find ways to unlock hole locations without bringing double bogey into the equation. Play boring golf. Then, when you are in contention, let your talent come out and bring home the win.
