The Quest To Be Perfect

Congratulations on waking up a flawed human being today. You can still win a PGA TOUR event…

Happy Thoughts On A Stupid Game

Friend, Viktor Hovland summed it all up in his Instagram post celebrating his 7th PGA TOUR win.

“Stupid, stupid game.”

Hovland just spent the week making his 6th coaching change between 5 different coaches/consultants in 2 years.

That number of swing changes suggests madness. Hovland believes it is method. His explanation of his swing journey can be found here on The Edge:

Hovland proved this week that even if you don’t like your move…you can win.

Stupid, stupid game.

“Disgusting” Swing…Great Mind

Hovland made a key decision on the start of the Snake Pit.

I’ve played a lot of golf at the Copperhead (thanks, Rodney Green!). The last 3 holes of that course don’t need a silly nickname. They stand on their own.

And 16 decided the tournament.

Click the picture above to see how everyone played the hole in the final round. Hovland had the advantage of seeing Justin Thomas hit driver into the trees in the group ahead. Hovland also knew the only birdie he made on 16 came when he found the fairway in Round 2. He also knew you can’t make birdie from the water right.

You can’t fake it on 16. So, Hovland went with an iron, found the fairway, then hit the best approach of the day on that hole to grab the tournament. He played to his strengths and lifted the trophy.

The lesson is easy to spot.

Here’s What To Expect This Week

Due to travel duties for both Andy and me, the podcast takes a week off. But, please feel free to listen to last week’s chat with Tim O’Neal. The conversation turned to golf ball color, and this moment that brought joy to my golf life.

This is a hole-in-one. So, why should be this embarrassing?

Yes, this is a picture of my ace. October 20, 2017 at Shingle Creek in Orlando. I hit the exact shot I imagined on the tee. I should never have to apologize for such skill.

But, the golf ball. Yes, it’s orange. You can see it. I can see it. Stevie Wonder could probably see it. And, Tim and Andy could not see how I could possibly make an ace with such a bright sphere.

Listen to the exchange at the 25-minute mark. Hear the slander. I know you are on my side, Friend! I make no apologies. Long live the orange ball of excellence!

That’s all for now. Remember, for more of this column every week, please…

Until next week!
