There was nothing in his record that suggested Rory McIlroy would be the man to beat this weekend. Until his driver overpowered Pebble Beach.

McIlroy led the field in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee. His all-around play was fantastic. When his driver is this good, it levels up the rest of his game. The Rory Bounce comes when the driver can be trusted. That’s why his name is going on the wall as a champion at Pebble.

Last week was the 78th time Pebble Beach has hosted this event. 33 times, the winner was (or became) a Masters champion. 42% of the time, Pebble crowned a Masters champ, or someone who was about to need more closet space.

Can that trend continue in April?

It’s Still The Greatest Meeting Of Land And Sea

We had breezy and chilly “Crosby weather” (or Irish weather?) for much of the week. Doesn’t matter. Pebble Beach is still one of the best shows in golf.

Here’s What To Expect This Week

Larry Fitzgerald is a perfect example of football players who can’t get enough of golf.

It’s Super Bowl Week, so we will go deeper into the intersection of football and golf. Seth Joyner won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 1998. He will join us Wednesday to talk about the game featuring his former team (Philadelphia). And, he’ll share how long it takes for Andy to pay his bets.

If you missed last week’s show with Rich Beem, just know that three Dad Bods were involved. But only one of us had the courage to embrace it.

And, we will start our Swing Thoughts segment with Andy’s take on what makes Rory’s swing special. You can check out some of his swing positions now if you can’t wait.
